SkaPunkMusicMan's Review

I am pretty good friends with Andy the lead singer of the wiggums; and for the longest time now i have wanted to see his band play. Then out of no where he IM's me and says "hey my band is opening for Slow Gherkin and Suburban Legends!" and about a year ago one of my best friends Lena got me into Slow gherkin & i had already downloaded a bunch of suburban legends. Anyways later i met Andy and Gabe (the wiggums Trumpet Player) at the voodoo glow skulls show and they were passing out fliers for the slow gherkin show. i got a copy and i said to myself "man these fliers suck" so later i went home and started to work on a flier for it of my own. i got the suggestion for the slow gherkin chef guy from lena and then i passed them out at the reel big fish show. i didnt realize that i spelled McClintock wrong until after i made 120 copies. oh well? the other flier was created by the people that work for AMJ concerts.

Ok now onto the show...my sister was planning on going to this concert with me and my friends for a long time. and she was planning on going until 3 hours before the show when she couldnt find someone to cover for her at work. so i had to ask my mom and step dad/guy/thing to take me and lena to the show.

we got there right when the wiggums went on stage. i was surprised at how many people where already there. but they got the crowd going a little we danced to "memory of you" and every sang along to there cover of "hedgecore" it was pretty cool. they did a good job.

then slow poke came on and i didnt watch them because when i saw them open for the mad caddies they played emo crap. but when they played this time they just played a bunch of ska and it was pretty good too! i was really surprised, i actually think they just slightly changed all the songs for the show. but oh well the crowd seemed to enjoy them.

Suburban Legends came on stage and had some technical difficulties, then they started doing stretches. and the whole crowd was doing stretches! it was the funniest thing in the world! and probably the best thing to get the crowd dancing for the opening song. i mean EVERYONE was skanking, it was amazing! they played 2 covers one of "under the sea" and they closed with "the gummi bears theme song" and everyone went crazy for those songs; and they did some excellant dancing as well!.

I was expecting 2nd wave two-tone type ska from the gadjits, but all they played was new rock n' roll. i mean theres nothing wrong with that it was just not what i expected. Once the band realised that no one was watching them or singing along they changed there tune and played "bad Gadjit" and then closed with "beautiful girl" (there was actually less people watching the gadjits then the wiggums)

Then 20-30 minutes later! Slow Gherkin Came! and rocked the house down. i dont think anyone could stop themselves from not dancing. the crowd had so much energy. and was so lively it was an excellent show! i cant wait to see all those bands again and i especially cant wait to see the wiggums open for Save ferris in october!

PS! i bought a suburban legends slap bracelet for me and my sis and a slow gherkin shirt with the chef on it for $10!
