SkaPunkMusicMan's Review
Backside was WAY better this time then they were when I first saw them but; there weren't very many people inside while they were playing. so that was a downer. But this time I knew almost all there songs and the singer gave me the mic allot! that was pretty cool. Oh and they played 2 covers, Minor threat "I don't wanna hear it" and Twisted Sister "We're not gunna take it"
Total Chaos wasn't supposed to play second they were supposed to play 3rd. this really made the band angry because they wanted to play a full half hour or 45 minutes, there set list was made for that long as well BUT! they didn't get too because they were the 2nd band. anyways they were fun but the crowd didn't like em too much. and it was great being able to sing along to some of there songs and having the singer let me sing into the mic during "Sex and violence" I talked to most of the band after the show and they were all pretty drunk and pretty pissed because of allot of things. 1) they played 2nd. 2)this big jerk was picking on people in the crowd and yelled "YOU GUYS SUCK!" 3) allot of there hardcore fans came late and missed them 4)the bass players bass broke during the last song.
Groovie Ghoulies were supposed to play a show that night at the Nile were they were the headliners. But they themselves are fans of the voodoo glow skulls so they asked at the last minute if they could open. the vgs said yes but the groovie ghoulies had to play first they agreed and didn't show up in time so they got to play 3rd and caused very much confusion! plus they sucked! during there set the singer for backside streaked across the stage. that was funny. Highlight of the day! hahaha
Anne bereta SUCKS! but I herd from Total Chaos that they sped all there songs up a little.
Voodoo glow skulls were a ton of fun! I guess they got rid of the saxophone player and got there trumpet player back which is cool in some ways and crappy in others. I mean they played older songs because of the trumpet player but at the same time the saxophone player was so nice and he liked WEEZER! my first time seeing them he wore a weezer shirt and I thought that was so cool. anyways! they did an awesome intro that they never do where they played all of the clips they used from cheech and chong on there first album then did the "WhoDoVoodooWeDo FUCK YOU!" thing and then they came out with blue smoke filling the air. they played allot from "who is, this is?" and a few from "firme" and a few from "symbolic" and about 3 from "band geek mafia" that was the best set list I think I have herd them play.
I saw allot of familiar faces from the other time I saw VGS and I finally said hi to some of them. overall I had allot of fun and I am never going to miss the voodoo glow skulls EVER!
Andy's Review
Backside: This band was ok, nothing too great. They played a minor threat song that got the crowd riled up. It was good hearing a Minor Threat song. They also covered a cheesy metal song "were not gunna take it" to get the crowd involved. The singer loved when the crowd helped him with the vocals.
Total Chaos: I thought this band was gonna be better. A legendary really old punk band. They had the "punk" attitude, but they overdid it. They were ok, and I did enjoy their sing-a-long type song with the 3 words "sex and violence" repeated MANY MANY times, true punk rock! The highlight of the set is when the lead singer jumped into the moshpit.
Groovie Ghoolies: They were not on the show, but ended up being added. They really have their stuff together. They play much rock, and not much talk. They all had the set memorized, many times only stick clicks separated songs. The songs were short and sounded very similar. I am not a fan of this band, or the singers voice. The bass player also plays weird.
Ann B....( I can't even spell this bands name). I didn't think to highly of them. By this point I was bored and waiting for VGS. I paid no attention to them.
Voo Doo Glow Skulls: well they were great. I'd never seen them live before. The crowd was energetic and it made it more fun. During the song "el coo cooi" the singer blew fire from a torch, very rad. Their set was very energetic and it was fun to see them. I also enjoyed the message of anti-racism, that was spread through most of the bands. Nothing too much more to say, except they rock! Seeing these guys make me proud I am a Latino, ok well proud that I'm half Latino!!!
